Prof Peggy Koopman-Boyden (Chair)
is currently Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Waikato.
She previously held the position of Executive Dean of the Faculty
of Arts and Social Sciences at the same university. Peggy Koopman-Boyden
was also previously CEO of the NZ Social Research and Development
Institute (a Crown Research Institute), and a long-standing member
of the Department of Sociology, University of Canterbury. She has
chaired or been a member of numerous committees advising Government,
including the National Council on AIDS. She has been awarded a CNZM
for services to the elderly, having undertaken research and community
work in the area.
Mr David Holden is the founder and
managing director of the OSIRIS group of companies, which own the New
Dimensions Healing Centre*, a
multi-disciplinary healing centre based in Auckland, NZ; the Institute
of Applied Iridology & Sclerology*, an
international natural therapies school based in Auckland and Brisbane;
and OSIRIS Consultancy*, a private health
consultancy company in Auckland. He is immediate Past President of the
International Research into Iridology & Sclerology Association*,
and President of the NZ Natural Medicine Association*
and is a qualified Medical Technologist, Naturopathic Physician*,
Nutritional Biochemist and Integrated Eye Diagnostician*.
Dr Rhys Jones (Ngati Kahungunu) is a Public Health Medicine Specialist. He
is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Maori and Pacific Health, University of Auckland, and has a part-time appointment at He
Kamaka Oranga (Maori Health), Auckland District Health Board. Dr Jones is Chairperson
of Te Ohu Rata o Aotearoa (the Maori Medical Practitioners Association).
Dr Maika Kinahoi Veikune is currently Manager of the Public Health Unit
and Project Manager of Pacific Integrated Care at Middlemore Hospital,
Auckland. Dr Maika Kinahoi Veikune has qualifications in medicine and
surgery, anaesthesiology, community medicine, public health, obstetrics,
gynaecology, medical administration and in AIDS Counselling. He has held a wide range of
supervisory, advisory and specialist roles in Tonga, New Zealand and within the World Health Organisation. Many
of these roles have had particular focus on Pacific peoples' health.
Ms Melva Martin is director and CEO of the Naturopathic College of New Zealand
Ltd*. She chairs the Natural Medicines Board of the New Zealand Charter
of Health Practitioners Inc*, and is an executive
committee member of the New Zealand Health Practitioners Accreditation
Board*. She is also a member of several advisory groups for the New Zealand
Qualifications Authority (NZQA) that are involved in setting and maintaining standards for Natural and
Traditional Health and Healing (NZQA Framework). Melva has an honours degree in education (MEdAdmin), an
MPhil in Religious Studies, and qualifications in naturopathy, osteopathy, and homoeopathy. She is also
a registered nurse and midwife.
Mr James McNeill is an acupuncturist and practitoner of traditional Chinese
medicine (TCM). Gaining qualifications in Sydney and China, he has been in
private practice for eighteen years, is a director of AcuMed Ltd and operates from Napier Acupuncture Clinic. Mr McNeill has held
several positions in the past realating to TCM including NZQA's Acupuncture Advisory
Board and has assessment qualifications in acupuncture. James is the immediate
past-President and currently sits on the Council of the New Zealand Register of Acupuncturists.
Ms Janine Randle is presently working as a
paediatric nurse in a Christchurch hospital, and has a home-based
massage therapy practice*. She has been a
registered nurse for 25 years, specialising in family and child health
care, in both community and hospital settings. She has worked previously
on regional and national committees supporting families from a nursing
perspective. She is also a qualified aromatherapist.
Ms Marilyn Wright is currently working as
a School Guidance Counsellor in Napier. She has an honours degree
in statistics, masters in counselling and a diploma of teaching. She
has also trained in a three-year psychotherapy course in London. She
has previously been chairperson of the Taikura Rudolf Steiner School,
and has been a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors
from 1990 - present.
